The terms Architect and Architecture are old and well-known for buildings, gardens etc. In the Information- and IT-communities they are introduced for a number of purposes and reasons. SCIA identified a number of definitions for the term Architecture in Information and IT as shown if you follow this link.

To certify an architect requires a Body of Knowledge (in short: BoK). SCIA has identified a number of architects in the information and IT world. Each of these architects have a BoK. In these BoKs the "Knowledge, Skill/Competence/Ability and Being" of the resp. architect is described.

Currently SCIA identifies BoK's for the following architects:

  1. Information Architect, mainly concerned with Information as a production factor.
  2. IT-Business Architect mainly concerned with aligning IT with the business.
  3. IT-Architect, mainly concerned with the arrangement of IT-Infrastructures

and is interested in information on:

Next to these SCIA BoK's a number of companies have their own BoK's for their architects. For more information, follow this link.

SCIA publishes the names and BoKs of the information, IT and IT-Business Architects that are certified in public registers. The current existing registers are:

Certified Information, IT and IT-Business architects have to further their "Knowledge, Skill/Competence/Ability and Being" to stay certified. Therefore permanent education is required.
